Hampton Banks Sawmill, located just west of Portland produces Green Douglas Fir. The mill was operating with an offshore trimmer optimizer and controls system that did not meet their needs and was challenging to find support. Raptor designed a custom scanner frame to deal with tight mechanical constraints and allow for a weekend start-up. Pre-installation of many of the components was accomplished prior to shutdown weekend. The new board scanner (formally FX85), WEBSort and ControlLogix program was installed over the weekend with production commencing Monday morning as planned. The customer reported that upgrade yielded an Improved lug fill of 12%, reduced trim loss by .85% in the sawmill, reduced trim loss of .45% in the planermill and 1% less economy boards produced.
